Mineral Extraction from Sea Water One of the funding sources for the BorderTransportationSystem will be the extraction of salt and other minerals from the pumped in sea water.  Normally, the cost of extraction of minerals is prohibited, but due to the system's excess wind and solar generation the energy cost of extraction will be much lower than average.  The BorderTransportationSystem will actively seek out those individuals and companies that wish to extract salt and other minerals for profit or scientific purposes.  A small fee will be charged for each pound of mineral extracted; fee not to exceed 5% of the retail selling price of the mineral.
