   FAQ / WHY?

Cuts days off of the Panama Crossing

This is one of the best features of the BorderTransportationSystem.  Currently, a ship carrying containers from the Atlantic to the Pacific or the Pacific to the Atlantic has to either go around the tip of South America or Africa, or pass through the Panama canal. This is time consuming, expensive, wasteful of fuel and resources, and a major security risk to both Mexico and the United States.  China and others have for decades chipped away at the isthmus of Panama ((Istmo de Panamá), also historically known as the Isthmus of Darien (Spanish: Istmo de Darién)) and has influence there.

REF:  "For more than 100 years, the Panama Canal has controlled the bulk of goods transferred between the Pacific and the Atlantic. For much of that history, this monumental feat of engineering was under the control of the United States. But this is no longer the case.  In May, Panama’s largest port was purchased by a Chinese company called Landbridge Group."

"Margarita Island Port, on the canal’s Atlantic side, offers the company intimate access to one of the most important goods distribution centers in the world.  While promising to upgrade the ailing Panama facilities and offer more trade with America’s distant east coast, there is substantial reason to hesitate at the purchase of such a critical trade hub."   Per thetrumpet.com

Long ago there was a plan to cross Mexico with a sea level canal, dug by using atomic bombs to displace the earth; not one of the more better plans.

Timing - Canal vs BorderTransportationSystem

Our BorderTransportationSystem is a better way of approaching the situation in that it can cut days to weeks off of the ocean to ocean transport of goods, and this will save money.  The trip through the canal takes from 8 to 12 hours, if the ship has a reservation, if not then the trip can take several days to weeks awaiting for an opening.  It takes about 7 days to travel by ship from San Diego to the Panama Canal and it takes about 6 days from Brownsville, Texas.  Thus the trip by ship will normally take about 13 days, whereas the BorderTransportationSystem takes about 13 hours or less.

The BorderTransportationSystem is also between friendly nations that already have great trade relations, and that have the same Americas values.  In addition, since each rail sled is independent, each can transport a cargo container at high speed to an out-of-system track that leads directly to the factory or warehouse where it is needed, thus saving more days of travel and cost.
