Train Use per Mile
There has been much opposition to passenger use of trains, and especially to the High-Speed Rail systems that our president {Obama} is recommending. There is only about 270 miles of high-speed rail {110 to 150 MPH} on the Amtrak system, from Boston to Washington, DC., the remainder of the nation's rail system is a slow-speed system {60 MPH or thereabouts} as the track is shared by and owned by the major freight transport lines.
California, Arizona, Florida, and Texas are currently considering or building High-Speed Rail lines. Meanwhile Mexico is building Super-High-Speed Mag Lev lines right to the U.S.A. border.
The BorderTransportationSystem would add to the High-Speed Rail 1,989 miles or 3,201 km to the existing systems, and also 1,989 miles or 3,201 km of Super-High-Speed Mag Lev passenger service. The system will be used for both passenger and freight traffic.
