   FAQ / WHY?

Insufficient Wind Energy

Wind farms are great for generating megawatts of electricity, but that is only when there is wind and that wind is within a specific range in MPH.  To slow and the blades do not turn fast enough to generate the electricity, to fast and the blades and turbine will be damaged.

The BorderTransportationSystem from El Paso to Brownsville is prime for Wind Turbines as the wind speed is 6 and 7 meters per second.  The speed at which the turbine first starts to rotate and generate power is called the cut-in speed and is typically between 3 and 4 meters per second, but the turbines will not produce maximum output until the wind speed hits 12 meters per second and up.

Parts of Southern California and New Mexico may also support wind turbines, but most of the Arizona border will not.
